The DXRacer Racing Series REO gaming chair like most other gaming chairs needs to be assembled on delivery. It is not shipped out while already being assembled. It can be quite troublesome to assemble this chair on your own. You will need some help to save yourself time and a lot of trouble. The screws and clamps of this chair can be hard to put together while also holding the chair in place. Not to mention the chair has a lot of packing and wrapping material used to make sure the chair gets delivered to you safely. This is a standard DXRacer style packing. While this makes for a hassle in Unboxing and assembling the chair, the more than adequate wrapping makes sure you get the product in tip-top condition.
The narrow base of the chair is made from aluminum. There are 2-inch PU wheel castors. High density foam is used in the padding of this chair. The foam is covered in classic PU upholstery leather. The thing about PU leather that makes so many companies go for it when choosing the upholstery material is its softness. It is absolutely supple and absorbing. PU leather is also quite resistant to cuts and tears. There has been no compromise on the quality of materials used in making the DXRacer REO gaming chair. The gas lift used in adjusting the height of the chair is a class four gas lift. This is a heavy-duty gas lift that is certified by BIFMA. The height adjusting lever and the chassis of the chair have been made to last. They are very durable. There are also headrest and back support cushions included as a part of the chair.
This chair has quite a striking design. It has an overall shape like that of a car seat of a race car. Hence, the name of the chair is Racing Series. There is a design on both the left and right sides of the backrest that stretches down to the edge of the seat. This design and accents are available in a few different colors. Although, we feel that the red and black combination works best for almost any sort of setup. There are two holes or empty spaces near the top of the backrest. This is customary for nearly all racing style gaming chairs. These holes are outlined in the same red color. On the legs of the chair, close to the wheels, there are small pads of the same red color. The overall design of the chair makes it easily noticeable in a crowd of other gaming chairs. It is quite a striking and even aggressive design choice. Most gaming enthusiasts will find the design to be quite eye-catching and attractive.
The DXRacer Racing Series REO gaming chair comes with a full package of adjustments to make it as ergonomically efficient as possible. The chair has a reclining backrest. There is a conventional tilting mechanism operated by a lever on the underside of the chair. It has a surprisingly easy recline setting. You do not feel any discomfort when you wish to lay down for a while. The arms of the chair are 3-D adjustable. This means that they can be adjusted in three different directions. You can move the armrests up and down or backward and forwards. You can even get them to swivel and rotate a bit. All of these adjustments to the armrests can be made individually to the armrests. You can change the position or direction of one armrest independently, not moving the other armrest. Sadly, there is one adjustment lacking in these armrests. This is the reason they are not 4-D armrests, even though 4-D armrests have become rather common nowadays. There is also no tilt lock mechanism. The tilt lock is used to give the chair the ability to have its seat made deeper independently of the backrest. The ergonomic features it does provide are adequate and sufficient. The couple of features it does not have are no deal breakers.
The high-quality foam and PU leather used in making the DXRacer REO gaming chair ensures that it will be highly comfortable. The high backrest of the chair gives it the ability to support people up to 6 ft in height even though it is not a very big chair. The headrest and the back-support cushions are pretty good as well. This is a top-level gaming chair and most people should find it very comfortable.
There are, however, some quite obvious drawbacks to the DXRacer REO gaming chair. For one, it may prove to be uncomfortable for large people. It has a decent recommended height and weight capacity, but that is just it. It does not have a high weight capacity. If you are above 6 ft in height, or even above 200 lbs. you may end up facing some issues when seated in the chair. Then there is the fact that there is no in-built lumbar support mechanism. You have the lumbar support cushion but it is just not the same as having a support mechanism that you adjust to your liking.
The warranty of the REO is quite nice. DXRacer has given out a lifetime warranty on the frame of the chair. While the other parts of the chair have a two-year warranty period. The two-year warranty is nice but again, nowhere near the highest in the market. Some rival companies of DXRacer are giving out much higher warranty time periods. The price of the DXRacer REO is not overwhelming. It is decently priced. It is quite a reasonable price when you look at all the features the REO provides.
Verdict on the Chair
DXRacer is a company that has been around for a long time. While they were the best company for gaming chairs at the start, they have gone a bit stale in recent times. The REO gaming chair is a really good chair, everything considered. But it does have some lacking ergonomic features that most modern chairs possess. However, those lacking ergonomics should not be a reason for anyone to overlook this chair. It has all the really necessary adjustments and customization features available to it.
The REO gaming chair has a very aggressive and bold design. It is an attention drawing design. Most people who do have gaming setups tend to like flamboyant and stylish products. It gives a good comfort level to all average or medium sized people. It is, however, not suitable for larger people. There is no integrated lumbar support either. The price of the chair is quite reasonable and that somewhat makes up for its shortcomings.
Alternatives for the Chair
The DXRacer REO gaming chair has its downsides. There is no denying that. At similar prices, there are many chairs that can be very good alternatives if this does not prove to be suitable for you. One such alternative is for people with larger body sizes than what is recommended for the DXRacer REO chair. This is the Corsair T2 Road Warrior. The Secretlab Omega gaming chair is also a really good alternative to the DXRacer REO though it is recommended for a similar height and weight class.
Corsair T2 Road Warrior
Corsair is an exceedingly popular and well-known gaming brand. It makes all sorts of top-level gaming peripherals and products. Unsurprisingly, they also have some of the best gaming chairs. The Corsair T2 Road Warrior is an elegantly designed gaming chair. It has 4-D adjustable armrests, along with all the other ergonomic features. The design of the T2 Road Warrior is refreshingly simple. When you see the Corsair name you expect something flashy and stylish. This is a refreshing change of pace from mainstream Corsair products. It has a high weight capacity that is able to support almost all sorts of users. The comfort given by this chair is highly rated. It is a little more expensive than the DXRacer REO, but it does give more when it comes to features as well.
Secretlab Omega
Secretlab is perhaps the most highly rated manufacturer of gaming chairs at this time. Their chairs are not known for having very flashy designs. They are sleek and subtly aesthetic. The comfort level of the Omega cannot be stressed enough. It is perhaps the most comfortable gaming chair in the market. It has a wide range of ergonomic features as well. The design of the Omega is very eye-catching, without having any unnecessary bright or bold touch to it. Its recommended height and weight capacity are similar to the DXRacer REO, but it is much more comfortable and widely approved. If you want a bigger chair with the same features and design as the Omega then the Secretlab Titan will be a good option. Though, for that, you might have to dig a bit deeper into your pocket.
